hole in heart
In March I had visited a cardiologist to check on my long-known 'heart condition': a hole between the two atria and what is called a 'functional heart murmer'. At the time there was no indication that special measures were necessary but if I wanted to know more, I should come back at a later stage. That is what I did today, and had an endo-echocardiogram. After local anesthesia with a spray, I had to swallow a tube with an ultrasound device so an image of the heart could be made from the oesophagus, which is closer to the place where the hole is. At intervals I was injected with something like carbondioxide, that made bubbles in the blood. It was clearly visible that these did not go from one heart atrium to the other. In other words, the hole is so small, that there is no danger that a blood clot could pass and go to my brain. Good news and no further follow-up is necessary.
